We live in the 21st century, where things keep changing in the blink of an eye, before we know it, the most expensive gadget we got ourselves will have a new upgrade or a new version altogether.
What we haven’t realised is that this fast changing time is making its way in education too and in its own unique way. What our parents see for our future from the time we are born is getting updated with what we want from ourselves for our future.
I am a fortunate child who was never forced or told to pursue my parent’s dreams and choices but was rather encouraged to #thinkbig and dream big and learn through my own choices and failures that shaped me into an independent, strong and confident individual.
So here are few reasons you shouldn’t inherit college education from your parents.
- Break the odd of following your parent’s footsteps.
So what if your parent is a doctor, engineer or chartered accountant, you don’t need to be the same too. Look within yourself and see what your true calling is, there are lots of courses today that cater to your choice, so that you can be happy when you learn more about it rather than being agitated and annoyed with something that you don’t like.
- Leading a regretful life.
I have met so many people, who at the peak of their careers realised that had they not listened to their parents but rather decided for themselves, they would have been happier today. They also wish all the time if they could just go back in time and change it, things would have been so much better.

- Job Satisfaction rather than Job Happiness.
95% of the people, due to their parent’s advice of you need to graduate with a degree and great marks to get that well paid 9-5 job, end up in jobs that may pay well with just job satisfaction but no job happiness. How cool it would be if one would actually enjoy going to work every day with great enthusiasm rather than being forced to wake up to go to work and keep waiting for TGIF.

- Changing Times.
Doesn’t mean that a University during your parents’ time that was ranked no.1 shall still continue to be no.1, as in today’s time universities are ranked not only on the basis of imparting education but also technological advancements and extra circular activities.
- Importance of Extra Curricular Activities.
Gone are the days when companies would look only at the number of degrees you possessed. In current times companies prefer hiring people who are an irreplaceable asset to the company not only in terms of knowledge but also in terms of what more they can offer to the company for its betterment.

- Entrepreneurial Skills
Most of us are born entrepreneurs and if given the right guidance, motivation and support can make a big difference to the world at large. Thus it’s very important for one to accept this inborn talent than settle for something that wouldn’t make a difference at all.
I am sure the above reasons will help you to #ThinkBig and realize your true potential so that you can have a bigger smile and learn that you may spend some extra time in thinking so that your future is as bright as you want it to be.
